"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall exalt you."  -James 4:10

Volume XXXVIII

Number 18

VIEWPOINT

"We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, 3 remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 1:2).

Most church going people and many who are casually acquainted with the Scriptures would be able to answer the question posed by a scribe to Jesus. “Which commandment is the greatest of all?”  Many would also remember the secondary responsibility, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:29-31).

How many of us remember, however, that love ?  As the apostles opens his letter to the Thessalonians, he gives thanks for the “labor of love.”

Love DOES something. Love WORKS. Love PRODUCES. It LABORS.

LOVE GLOWS LIKE A LIGHT. “God doesn’t miss anything. He knows perfectly well all the love you’ve shown him by helping needy Christians, and that you keep at it” (Hebrews 6:10).  Love reflects the Savior by glowing to saints and glowing to sinners.

LOVE GROWS LIKE A FLOWER.  Your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing 2 Thessalonians 1:3). It’s rooted in the Lord and in His word. It reaches above the weeds of this world to be a blessing to others. Its reproduction is to bear seeds for more flowers.

LOVE GLUES LIKE AN ADHESIVE.  Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony” (Colossians 3:14).  Love, like glue, fastens loose things, such as a fellowship, a marriage, a friendship.  Love, like glue, fixes broken things, such as a broken heart or a broken home.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday with a Bible, a smile, and a positive word!  RA

SIX LITTLE STORIES

1.  Once all villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella.

 That's FAITH.

 2. When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them.

That's TRUST.

3. Every night we go to bed without any assurance of waking up the next morning, but still we set the alarm clock to wake up.

That's HOPE.

4. We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future.

That's CONFIDENCE.

5. We see the world suffering, but still we get married and have children.

That's LOVE.

6. On an old man's shirt was written a sentence 'I am not 80 years old; I am sweet 16 with 64 years of experience.'

That's ATTITUDE.

Have a happy day and live your life like the six stories.

SYMPATHY

The sympathy of the congregation is extended to Myra and Doyle White.  Myra's brother-in-law, Ed Yonkey passed away Wednesday.  A memorial service will be Friday in Johnson City, Tennessee.

The sympathy of the congregation is also extended to Chris and Shannon Greenwald as well as Chris' family.  His father, Gary Greenwald, passed away March 9.   A memorial will be conducted later.

Dear Cedar Grove

I want to thank the entire Cedar Grove congregation for the support of my family over the past year as my dad has been sick, and over the last few weeks in particular, with his passing. The cards, letters, hugs and calls are an indication of the love for our family and the impact that dad had on others. The Cedar Grove family has always been there for Shannon and myself. I just wanted to thank you for the ongoing support.  Sincerely,

Chris Greenwald
