THE HEIGHTENER

"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall exalt you."  -James 4:10

Volume XXXVIII

June 27, 2017

Number 26

VIEWPOINT

Brad Paisley sings, “When I get where I’m going, there’ll be only happy tears . . . when I get where I’m going don’t cry for me down here.”

There’s always an emotional aspect to saying farewell to our loved ones on earth.  As we conducted the “home going” for Linda Moore, however, our sadness was certainly tempered with the assurance of hope for eternity (1 Thessalonians 4:13).

Even though Linda passed from life on June 23, she had not really been herself for a long time.  She was “there,” but “not there.”

The Scripture says that a righteous person cares for the needs of their animals (Proverbs 12:10).  Or "Good people are good to their animals" (The Message).  That is, righteousness and goodness are specifically linked to kind treatment of animals.   The animal world is part of God’s creation – they deserve proper care and treatment.

Taking care of the animals shows something about a spiritual heart. Of course, that was a precise description of Lindas personality.  There was never an animal she didn’t care for.  Her heart was big enough to include every pet and stray that she ran across, including the ones she rescued from being euthanized at the veterinarians office.

Jimmy commented, “Everybody has at least one gift – hers was certainly her heart for the pets.”

Being a Christian doesn’t give us a pass on the hard things of life – human life has never been exempt from plague, pestilence and problems.  So for Linda, the cruel deterioration of Alzheimers was a barrier that couldnt be reversed.

Being a Christian, however, does give us an assurance that there is more to life than the difficulties. “There is now no condemnation for those that are in Christ” (Romans 8:1).

Furthermore, we are “Super conquerors” through Christ (Romans 8:37).  Neither death nor life, angels nor demons, present nor future, height or depth, nor any other power” will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord

Disease and death are tools that our enemy uses to discourage us.  But no disease, including the loss of memory, can drive a wedge between our hearts and the love of the Almighty.  Now Linda has gone to a place where her mind is restored and her peace is complete.

“When I get where I’m going
And I see my maker’s face”
I’ll stand forever in the light
          Of his amazing grace.”

I look forward to seeing you Sunday with a Bible, a smile, and a positive word!  RA

I Still Believe . . .

Christianity is not a religion of "keeping up." Christianity is not a religion of celebrity. Christianity is a religion of integrity. A religion of celebrity demands human sacrifice. A religion of integrity demands sacrificing humans. But the Devil's fundamental rule in an age of celebrity is this: "It doesn't matter what you are, it only matters what people think you are."

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
Jesus loves me. This I know. . . .

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
The B-I-B-L-E, Yes that’s the book for me. . . .

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
What Can Wash Away My Sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
Jesus is the ... Sweetest Name I Know.

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
I've Got a Home in Glory Land That outshines the sun. . . .

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
I've Got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy, [Where?] . . .

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
Because He Lives, I can face tomorrow. . . .

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
Be Not Dismayed What E're Betide, God will take care of you.

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
Soon and Very Soon we are going to see the king. . . .

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. . . .

Call me crazy, but I still believe that
Surely, the Presence of the Lord is in This Place.

The Devil says: "Keep up." Jesus says: "Keep on keeping on."
