"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall exalt you."  -James 4:10

VIEWPOINT

Writing in Think magazine, Brad Harrub says, “I recognize that drunk driving is not a sin for the majority of Christians. However, many Christians live their daily lives “under the influence” – the Hollywood media influence.  They have ingested so much ‘Hollywood’ entertainment and media propaganda that their behavior and speech have been altered.  Often Christians watch so much that they become desensitized – similar to the alcoholic who feels nothing after just a few drinks.

“Our present society is in a state of moral decay, not because the majority of Americans love degeneracy, but because the influence of humanism has been greater on our culture than the influence of the church.

Recognizing the power of media, we should take proactive steps to cure the problem.  We should try to rid our lives of as much ‘Hollywood’ influence as possible.  As we stop supporting deplorable shows and movies, we should seek to replace them with good.  Allow me to usher a challenge.  Take one week and determine to drastically reduce the Hollywood influence on your life.  Instead of sitting in front of a godless television show, spend time playing with your children.  Replace godless material with spiritual material.  At the end of the week, you will be rewarded by knowing that for one solid week your influence for good has outweighed any negative influences.”

I look forward to seeing you Sunday with a Bible, a smile, and a positive word!  RA

What Do We Owe the Lord?

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: and thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might  (Deuteronomy 6:4, 5).

This passage of Scripture has been used as a proof-text for the Trinity, and rightly so, because it teaches that there is only one Lord God. But just as importantly, this declaration is a statement of exclusivity — the God of the Bible is the one and only sovereign Lord over heaven and earth.

It is for this reason, as God Himself points out in the ensuing command, that we owe this one true God our undivided affection, worship, and service. Serving any other god — including our own schemes, aspirations, or lusts — is an act of colossal rebellion against the loving, holy, and good Lord of creation; any such insurrection is doomed to failure.

Do you recognize the God of the Bible as the one Lord of your life? Is your heart united to fear His name? Does your soul revel in the brilliance of His majesty? Are your energies spent solely for His glory? He is the Lord of the universe, and He deserves our all of everything.

Dear Cedar Grove

I want to thank the entire Cedar Grove congregation for the support of my family over the past year as my dad has been sick, and over the last few weeks in particular, with his passing. The cards, letters, hugs and calls are an indication of the love for our family and the impact that dad had on others. The Cedar Grove family has always been there for Shannon and myself. I just wanted to thank you for the ongoing support.  Sincerely,

Chris Greenwald
