VIEWPOINT

Do you know someone who is bored with church?  Are you around anyone who thinks his or her  spiritual life is a bit dull?   A slogan or theme to cure that problem might be “Less Talk, More Walk.”  There is a reason for this boredom: hearing without doing becomes boring – every time!

Hearing without doing will quickly bring you to the place where you have heard so much that you think, “Oh no, not another sermon!”  The problem is not the Word –  it is that you have become oversaturated and spiritually numb.  We become bored when we are not doing what we hear preached or taught.  Begin doing what you've already been told to do and you won't have time to be bored!

When James writes: “. . . but be doers of the Word, and not hearers only. . .” the phrase “hearers only” is taken from the Greek word which describes people who audit a class rather than taking it for credit.  These folks weren't interested in learning, passing exams, earning a degree and going out to make a difference in the world.  Instead, they were there because

a) they found it intellect-tually stimulating.

b) they loved the excitement of being with the crowd.

c) often they followed their favorite teacher from one town to another.

d) they loved new speakers.

e) when class was over they met at a local restaurant to eat, drink, laugh and discuss what they had heard.

Or maybe, they just wanted to look knowledgeable in the eyes of other people.

That certainly isn’t what our fellowship is about!  Let’s open our hearts to the truths we hear taught.  Let them

work in our lives.  If you do, you can be sure of this one thing:  you will never ever again have time to become spiritually

 bored!

----------------------

It was quite encouraging to see a large percentage of our Cedar Grove family take advantage of our Fall Spiritual Emphasis.
Fred Strasser brought a great deal of preparation with him, and we reaped the benefit of his study.  I am thankful we
could take advantage of an opportunity for spiritual growth; I know the blessings will continue for a long time to come.

In addition, I am glad we’re praying for each other.  I could certainly appreciate what Jimmy Pulliam said when he
commented on hearing his name in public prayers.  I am grateful for every prayer spoken on behalf of Paula and me –
I certainly need them!

LOOKING AHEAD:  The next event on our church calendar will be Bible School Emphasis throughout the month of
October.  Let’s keep the same level of enthusiasm that we had last week.

I appreciate the page of “Christian bumper
stickers” from Nancy Northcutt.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday with a Bible, a smile and a positive word!.            RA

Think About These Slogans

Want to prevent burning? Use Son block!

Be ye fishers of men. You catch them - He'll clean them.

Don't put a question mark where God put a period.

Forbidden fruits create many jams.

God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

God grades on the cross, not the curve.

God loves everyone, but probably prefers fruits of the spirit over religious nuts.

God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.

Most people want to serve God, but only in an advisory capacity.

Prayer:  Don't give God instructions - just report for duty!

The task ahead of us is never as great as the Power behind us.

You can tell how big a person is by what it takes to discourage him.
