A Daughter

A daughter is a wonderful blessing,

A treasure from above.

She's laughter, warmth and special charm.

She's thoughtfulness and love.

A daughter brings a special joy,

That comes from deep inside.

And as she grows to adulthood,

She fills your heart with pride.

With every year that passes,

She's more special than before.

Through every stage, through every age,

You love her even more.

No words can describe the warm memories,

The pride and gratitude, too.

That comes from having a daughter,

To love and to cherish . . .just like you

Many prayers will be answered this week when Heather and Chuck enter into marriage.  Of course, Paula and I have been praying about this day since before Heather was born.  (Although I admit our prayes have intensified as the time has approached!)  In addition, there are prayers that have been offered by both the bride and groom themselves as well as  the many petitions by our spiritual family. The wedding process has allowed us to express and achieve many of the hopes and dreams we’ve had for our daughter.

Beyond that, though, marriage is a platform to extend God’s glory:  “In flesh and spirit they are His” (Malachi 2:15).  Marriage is  the prism through which God reveals His covenant relationship with His people.  According to Ephesians 5 when the husband and wife fulfill their God-given roles and live out His purposes, everyone around them learns more about the loving leadership that Jesus has for the church.

In fact, marriage is meant for ministry.  God brings two people together not just for enjoyment but also for His own purposes, for His glory, and for the benefit of others.

So our event this Saturday will be the combination of prayer and  planning; the blending of character with deep emotion.  We’re joyful for both Heather and Chuck.  My feelings, however, may be best expressed in the song by Heartland:

But I loved her first and I held her first

And a place in my heart will always be hers

From the first breath she breathed

When she first smiled at me

I knew the love of a father runs deep

And I prayed that she'd find you someday

But it’s still hard to give her away

I loved her first

— with thanksgiving, Ross

Heather Moore will be four on Sunday, June 23.  If you would like to send her a birthday card, the address is available in the church office.

A family church picnic is planned for Saturday, June 30 at the Newnan Utility Park.  We have the pavilion reserved from 8:00 – 12:00.  Come when you like and we will plan to eat about 11:00.  Each family is to bring their own food. We will have to be out of the pavilion at 12:00 but you can stay as long as you like for the children to play.

The sympathy of the congregation is extended to Dave and Jana Hamby and her family in the death of Jana’sgrandmother.  Funeral services were in Texas.

Sympathy is also extended to Mike and Rebecca O’Brien and her family in the death of her aunt recently.  Funeral services were last week.

There is a new list posted on the bulletin board for those who are willing to help in the nursery.  Your help isappreciated.

There are also some blank spaces that need to be filled in on the Communion Preparation list.

A big workday is scheduled for July 14.  All the plans are in place to construct our storage building behind the main church building.

In addition, we have the opportunity to replace the filter system for our baptistry.   There are a number of ways to help.  Volunteer sheets are posted on the bulletin board.  Or talk with Bobby Elam about what is needed.

Jodi Brinkley had outpatient surgery on Tuesday.

Bill Moore’s surgery to replace his pacemaker was successful.

Continue to remember Evelyn Bohannon, Susan Carson, Nell Peters, J. W. Raines, Richard

and Joyce Smith Geneva White, Virgil Mize and Heather Moore.
